Nicola caroline our camp on playa copal

kersten throws a raley Another great day of kiting at playa copal, the winds blew steady from early morning to late afternoon with peaks of 25 knots at times. It was a day that turned out to be fairly expensive for some of us, both myself (Caroline) and Clay managed to crash and totally trash our kites while pushing our limits. For others however, it was a day marked by personal breakthroughs, as for Roland who nailed his first backloop! Congrats Roland!

Back at the hotel and a couple of Imperials later, we were all very ready to go to sleep. I will do that with a smile on my face, after all the wind is blowing outside my window (I am again optimistic about repairing my 7m2, for sure it can’t be that bad..:) and tomorrow will most likely be another epic day of kiting in this beatiful salty “salina” bay!

"beach office" openingGreat, wind is back (16/20kns.are good enough to start) and sun too, so students and guests of the Blue Dream can start to enjoy the Bay. Also, 2010 Slingshot and Best gear arrived and we (Kersten and myself) could start to test it: soon we’ll give you our first impressions.

Welcome to the Kitesurfing Blog of Bahia Salinas, Costa Rica

The windy season is going to start soon… YES!! :-) Actually, the wind didn’t really stop to blows during the “rainy season” (it was the driest one registered in the last 20 years), but let’s say that that the “official” windy season (November – May) is right here. I don’t know if there will be many kiters visiting Costa Rica this year (due to the world crisis the turn off tourism in general) but for sure we are ready to welcome everybody that decided to discover for the first time or come back in the world famous WINDY Bahia Salinas (for the more lucky ones, this will be the 7th time, right Chris?). We’ll be open between October 31st `til the beginning of September. The wild Copal kitebeach is ready to watch all of us with our jumps and crashes (lot of them) and blows its sand….on those crazy days… (Yes, there will be the 30+ kns. even this year). The Blue Dream hotel will do the possible to make the vacation even more comfortable the before: new light system at night for the garden areas, reorganization of the BBQ area, new lounge area with comfortable sofas and wi fi fast internet connection inside the restaurant Mediterraneo (we were waiting for this possibility for the last 9 years…and now yes, there is also in Bahia Salinas now!), wider menu’ offer with special nights. The Kitesurfing School 2000 crew, based inside the hotel, is ready to make the usual  daily free shuttle transportation between the Hotel and Copal kitebeach directly on the launching/landing spot, offering lessons, rentals and demos using the last year gear of Best, Slingshot and Royal kiteboarding. We’ll make great video and photo shots to watch at night drinking the always cold Imperial beer and a hot pizza (not before a relaxing moment in the Jacuzzi). This year will join the team the IKO instructor Kersten Brandle from Switzerland and Caroline Henriksson from Sweden. Very soon on this blog, we’ll be ready to announce the official beginning of the new apparel brand Kitesurfingroove with its on line shop. All the beach clothing line will be available in the hotel shop too.

See U in the air
